Maribor is a post-industrial Slovenian town set amid wine-region hills on the Drava River. It’s Slovenia’s second largest town, the center of the eastern part of the country, with a colorful medieval town center and surroundings as green as you can imagine. Your first stop in the European Youth Capital 2013, where you’ll put down your backpack and get all INFO you need for next days is definitely MKC Maribor – Youth Cultural Centre Maribor with one of the most beautiful youth hostels in Slovenia. Hostel Pekarna is a part of the Cultural center Pekarna, which represents a complex of (mostly squoted) buildings that used to be a military bakery, but have since become a popular alternative nightlife destination for young and old alike. Reaching the hostel in the 2nd floor of the building, you will need to pass a special hallway that is dedicated to all European Youth Capitals. And since we're still talking about European Youth Capitals, there is interesting to know, after 2013 Maribor supported the development of extra 8 NGO youth centres! We strongly encourage to discover them, as they’re all very unique and enrich Maribor in many different ways! No matter when you decide to come, Maribor will always welcome you with its fresh and undiscovered jewels – special tailored urban walks and adventures! Take the Industrial City Tour, spend your savings at the Alternative Shopping Tour, go for the Electrical Treasure Hunt, experience the Multi-sensual Urban Adventure and take a Wine Tour and make a selfie with the World’s oldest vine! Discover and explore Maribors rich cultural and historical background by visiting the many Museums, Galleries and Landmarks the town has to offer, or enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds it. Maribor can be very charming in all seasons, but if you’re more into festivals, come in June! You definetely don’t want to miss the biggest music&art festival in the region – Festival Lent, an uprising electronic music festival organized by local youngsters – StellarBeat Music Festival and Jazz ’ma mlade – a boutique festival of young jazz, art, vine and local gastronomy. Arriving in September or October you can get involved in the Festival Mladi Maribor – more than 50 activities with added value, such as trainings, workshops, lectures, screenings … – a festival of all youth organizations in our town. You’ll be able to experience the festival as a participant or you’ll just become one of the organizers for a day! Have we mentioned the festival is also a result of the Youth capital?
And to top it all of, we’re offering special discounts for all DiscoverEU/Interrail travelers!
